Have a night to remember at the SSE Hydro
Glasgow has long been associated with major music events due to its vibrant audiences and passion for all genres of music. So why not get involved and plan a trip to Glasgow to see one of the many concerts at the SSE Hydro this summer. Make sure your trip is one full of style, luxury and charm by staying at Fraser Suites Glasgow before your big night out at one of the world’s busiest music arenas.
What makes the SSE Hydro special?
The SSE Hydro (or simply the Hydro as locals affectionately call it) is a stunningly modern, almost futuristic venue housed right by the River Clyde just on the fringe of the city centre. The world renowned events arena makes up one third of the SEC – Scottish Events Campus. If you’re arriving by plane, car or train to the city you’ll be able to spot its brightly lit facade on arrival. As one of the UK’s only purpose built arenas for live entertainment, the SSE Hydro is built on the site of the former Queen’s Dock shipyard. Designed to replicate the surround seated style of Roman and ancient Greek amphitheatres, Glasgow is proud to have the largest entertainment venue in Scotland. And with the Hydro acclaimed to be one of the most atmospheric and iconic settings in the world, it’s no wonder.
Boasting a seated capacity of 12,000, crowds provide an energetic atmosphere that keep big name acts coming back on tour over and over again. More than a million visitors pass through the doors of the SSE Hydro annually, meaning that the venue is ranked in the top three entertainment venues in the world next to New York’s Madison Square Garden. At only four years old, the Hydro has become an instantly recognisable statement on the city’s skyline. High profile events such as the 2014 MTV European Music Awards and the 2014 BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards were both hosted here as well as it being chosen as an official venue for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Now, over 140 events take place here annually – that’s more than two per week.
Glasgow is a vibrant hub with a legendary music scene and the SEC plays a significant role in the city’s status as a UNESCO City of Music and international entertainment destination. This year is no exception and the Hydro has a busy calendar for 2017 that includes concerts from Emelié Sande, Ed Sheeran, pop supergroup Take That, Bob Dylan, American rockers Blink-182, and events including the Ideal Home Show 2017, live boxing featuring the highly anticipated fight match between local Ricky Burns vs. Julius Indongo and Paw Patrol live for children. See the full events listing here.
Accessible for all
Those with accessibility needs are fully catered for with wheelchair services and hearing induction loops installed at the venue. Lifts are installed at car parks and in the seated areas to certain levels. If you need mobility assistance this can also be pre-arranged before you attend. Baby-changing facilities, a bank and onsite restaurants and bars are perfect for refuelling before you dance and sing the night away. You can also take advantage of an ATM bank and cloakroom. For all accessibility options please check with the venue of your requirements before you book tickets.
